Winnie Dahlgren, Marimba & Percussion
Originally from Denmark. Winnie started playing percussion at fifteen. 1986-91 studying classical percussion at the Vestjysk Conservatory in Esbjerg. In 1991 she received a Bachelor of Music Degree with a major in Music Education from the conservatory,and then took two years off while she studied Jazz Vibraphone at Berklee College of Music in Boston. In 1993 Winnie Dahlgren returned to the conservatory and finished her studies in classical percussion with a Masters Degree in 1995. Before going back to the States she free-lanced as a percussion player, performing in various ensembles and symphony orchestras, as well as teaching drum set, mallets and timpani for 6 years. In 1996 she continued her studies at Berklee where she graduated in December 1997 with a degree in Jazz Composition & Performance. During a Master Class at Berklee she was discovered by Bob Brookmeyer, with whom she now takes private lessons in composition. She was chosen to represent Denmark on a Europe-tour with the "European Youth Jazz Orchestra" in July 1999. Since November 1998 she has been working with Sukuma and is the manager for the band.

Daniel Day, Bass
Born in Paramaribo,Suriname (South America), Daniel studied at Berklee College of Music, majoring in Arranging and Performance. Being an experienced performer in a variety of genres has made him a much sought after musician, both in the local and national scene with performances that include: Bob Moses and Mozamba, Culture Jam , Oleta Adams, Dennis Chambers as well as recordings with/for Dr. Dre and Emmy Award winning Composer Camara Kambon.
Daniel is known for his ability to “drive” a rhythm section. |

Ernesto Diaz, Percussion
Ernesto is a native of Bogota, Colombia, a resident in the USA since 1968. Ernesto has taught Afro-Cuban percussion at Berklee College of Music, Boston since 1994. He has extensive credits as a percussionist and has collaborated in numerous recording projects. Diaz has participated in Concerts and festivals in the USA, France, Japan, Equador, Mexico and El Salvador. Ernesto Diaz has been the percussionist in bands with: Dave Samuels, Danilo Perez, Victor Mendoza, Oscar Stagnaro, Orlando "Puntalla" and Daniel Ponce. |

Nigel Williams, Guitar
Nigel Williams was born in Trinidad and raised in St.Maarten. He attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston where he graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education. After living in Boston for five years, Nigel has returned to St.Maarten where he teaches music at the Andante Music school. When not teaching, Nigel devotes his time to "Colors", a popular band both in St.Maarten and the neighboring islands. A sought after musician, Nigel is often called on by his peers to play on their CDs and to perform live at different venues on the island. He hosts the popular Jazz Moods program at the
local jazz hot spot where local and international talents are featured. Nigel is currently working on his first CD "Dreamin' Out Loud" due to be released in May of this year. |

Harvey Wirht, Drums
Before coming to Boston, Harvey Wirht has played with Suriname's most leading bands and has done numerous recordings. He studied at the Berklee College of Music with Scholarships from the Suriname government, the Organization of American States, and from Berklee.He has received many reviews in different papers and magazines such as the Boston globe, Downbeat, the Chicago reader, and Cadence magazine. Some of the artists Harvey has worked with throughout his Berklee Years are Tiger Okoshi, Makanda Ken McIntyre (Blue Note and Prestige recording artist), Fareed Haque (Blue Note recording artist), George Garzone, Phil Wilson, and John Tchicai who has collaborated with John Coltrane, Arti Shep and Cecil Taylor. Wirht is currently playing with The Either Orchestra, Sunsteel, and the Jazz Composers Alliance. |
